Acute Subdural Hematoma in the Course of SARS-Cov-2 Infection
Keywords:

Introduction: The COVID-19 disease displays 15% fatality rate in patients 80 years of age or older. In Italy it reached 52.5% and can increase in the presence of comorbidities. Acute subdural hematoma has a mortality that ranges between 40 and 90%. The coexistence of both conditions constitutes a therapeutic challenge.
Objective: To describe the therapeutic conduct in a patient with acute subdural hematoma in the course of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Clinical case: We described here the case of an 83-year-old male patient with a history of ischemic cerebrovascular disease, essential arterial hypertension, type 1 diabetes mellitus and SARS-CoV-2 virus infection. During the illness he suffered a fall and later began to present drowsiness and irritability. Acute subdural hematoma was diagnosed and he underwent surgery. The evolution was satisfactory.
Conclusions: Acute subdural hematoma is not a complication of COVID-19, although it poses greater risk to life in these patients. It occurs as an isolated event in patients with risk factors such as high blood pressure, alcoholism, the use of anticoagulant drugs, advanced age and trauma.Downloads
