Abstract

INTRODUCTION: In the objectives of the neuropsychological evaluation in epileptic population resistant to drug treatment are included the assessment, from the post-operatory neuropsychological evolution, the influence of surgery performed in order to gain crisis control.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate in 33 patients with epilepsy of the lobe temporary, effects of the surgery to the year of made, about them cognitive functions, starting from the comparison of the pre and post surgical performance and relate the evolution of neuropsychological variable with variable clinical.

RESULTS: There are improvements in general cognition associated with the decline of the subsequent crisis to the intervention, manifest above all that this takes place in the left hemisphere, improvement in memory in the modality of memory with contralateral hemisphere to surgery and improvement in tasks of creep, as neuropsychological extratemporal regions-related function.

CONCLUSIONS: The control or reduction of crisis, achieved as a result of the surgery is the element of more positive influence in the neuropsychological evolution.
